Dual Core Intel or Dual Processor PowerPC?

I'm working on a Dual Processor PowerPC G5 with two 2.5GHz processors and 2.5GB of RAM. I've been asking for an upgrade for awhile and currently my employer's budget is too tight to purchase a new system.

There is a Dual-Core 2.66GHz Intel Mac Pro with 4GB of RAM available in the office. Obviously the RAM would be an upgrade, but I'm wondering: is the dual core going to be better than my dual processor? This may be a stupid question since the Dual Core is a newer system, but for some reason 1 dual core versus 2 single cores doesn't seem like a huge upgrade to me.

I do a lot of Adobe After Effects work and that's the primary reason I'm asking for an upgrade. 2.5 gigs of ram is just not cutting it.

Well i'm not MAC expert or anything, but if 2.5GB of Ram is a bottleneck then going to the newer intel system would be faster no matter what. In any event I do not recall the power pc chips being faster than intel's, so I would say grab it.

The intel mac pro is a dual dual core (aka two dual cores in a dual socket mobo) and should give you a nice improvement!

EDIT: Grab it nao!
