Dual-Core Hotfix in Vista ?

Hey guys,

I will give a try to Vista 32-Bit in a couple of hours (I'm finishing my back-ups right now), since I just received my copy this morning. Nice coincidence because Company of Heroes just received the DirectX10 patch, and nVidia just released a new drivers set for Vista. Well, anyhow, games or not, I just wanted to give a try to Vista as I said, if I don't like it then it wouldn't take me long to downgrade back to XP and set everything back as it currently is, so no big deal if I'm disappointed.

With all that useless information said, all I wanted to know is something about the Dual-Core Hotfix I installed a long time ago for Windows XP, while using my X2 processor. I remember back then people were often complaining of strange slow downs and lags-like behavior in games, even off-line, and that it was due to the way Windows XP processed information or power-levels or something like that. So a Dual-Core Hotfix was released, and it asked people to tweak a few things in the registry and the boot .ini file for Windows. So I did that and I remember that everything was fine since then. I still have that Hotfix in my back-ups, however I presume that Windows Vista was built with newer technologies in mind that XP wasn't built for, such as Dual and Multi-Core CPU's ?

So, simply said and simply asked, is Windows Vista "ready to go" as is, out-of-the-box for my X2 ? Or is there a known and recommended fix already similar to that of XP ?

Thanks.

*Resumes backing files, crosses fingers for a proper Vista install*

If a hotfix is released for XP, and just XP, you don't want to install it for Vista. Hotfixes should only be installed when you are experiencing the exact problem that the KB describes and if your OS is listed as affected.

Vista doesn't have the same problems with dual core that XP had. Essentially, MS has tried to integrate everything they developed for XP (i.e. hot fixes) into Vista to prevent problems.

Dual core drivers (X2) are native in Vista. When I set I my system everything was good to go out of the box.

Cool n' Quiet is another matter. It is built into Vista, but it only works with a supporting bios.

The issue was one core throtteling down when it shouldnt. It's was a hot fix, I think it moved to Windows Update for XP. The base fix is included in Vista so your good to go (I'm running 8 cores on Vista 64 so I know it works 😉 )
