hi, when they say a dual core is 2.4ghz for example, is each core 2.4ghz making the processor 4.8ghz? or is each core 1.2ghz making the processor 2.4ghz?
 
Each core is 2.4. that doesn't mean the whole CPU is 4.8. Both cores work in concert like Intel Hyperthreading but better.

No. That means that each core is running at 2.4 GHz. Its not going to be as fast in single process tasks as a 4.8GHz proc, but it will be able to excute 2 processes about 95% as fast as single core at 2.4GHz.
 
You posted the same thing at TG Forumz.

You got the same answer, so unless you've been living in a cave, a dual core CPU with 2.4 GHZ on each CPU does not equal 4.8, you might be thinking of the 4800+, but thats just a model ##. EACH CORE RUNS AT 2.4, thats all it means.

2.4 Ghz dual core means two CPU's running at 2.4 Ghz. In programs that can support more than one thread at a time, there is a performance benefit.

Intel Pentium 4's with Hyperthreading is not two cores working in concert; it's one core that can run certain multi-threaded apps more efficiently, but still nowhere as quickly as two real discrete CPU cores.
