No official news from AMD so nothing's confirmed. They however did mention (can't provide link since I can't remember where I read it), that they will try to make it compatible with current sockets, however, don't pin all your hopes on it. Hopefully they will, then lots of people will be very happy.

Does it really matter? Do you think the Dual Cores are going to be cheap?

I'll bet that for the 1st year no DC will be less than $1000 . . . are you still interested? :frown:

Actually, AMD announced at CES that DC will start off at around $700.

$700 is probably for the S940 Opteron (not compatible w/ your motherboard) which is planned for release in the near future. The S939 A64 Dual Core chips (hopefully compatible with your motherboard) will probably be substantially cheaper if/when they are released at the end of this year as planned.

Apparently for most users they will be slower than a single-core that is clocked moderately higher. Unless you use professional apps, I would advise against holding your breath. :)

If you do use professional apps, these chips will more than likely be a dream come true for you. I'm looking forward to some serious multitasking, even while rendering in 3D Max. ;)
