Dual-core Atom + ATI 5570 = good enough for HTPC use?

Just wondering...I'd like to build a small, cool-running HTPC, and was thinking that the low-powered Atom would be perfect. I already have a blue-ray drive & an ATI 5570 that I can use; I just need to figure out what sort of CPU to use. If the combination of Atom and 5570 *isn't* good enough, what other CPU would you suggest?

Thanks!

I'd say that's considerably overkill for HTPC use. The HD 5570 is a low end gaming card.

The Atom isn't the best for an HTPC. It will do but it's not so good at Flash HD playback or anything you're doing that might require more horsepower. I'd go with either a Socket 775 or LGA1156 Mini-ITX platform. Core 2 Duo CPUs are cheap goodness right now.

Zotac's boards are a good choice.

Even comes with built in Wifi. Doesn't say what the speed is but I presume it's 802.11g. The Geforce 9300 integrated GPU should be plenty of power for HD video.

go amd.

get a athlon II and 785g motherboard... onboard hdmi, optical sound, dvi...

the 4200 graphics in mine plays eveyrhting so well that I sold the 4670 I had in my HTPC.

I just upgraded from a 5000+ to the 945 quad in mine and a new case yesterday more for just something to do.. the 5000+ was totally fine.

if your going for cool and quiet sell the video card and go with onboard.

Bigy has a point, it's an HTPC. You're going to watch HD movies I assume and possibly light gaming? I mean, at 1080p you'd need a bit of beef for gaming, sure, but it's still an HTPC. My HTPC is a Zotac MAG, Atom 330 + Ion = good enough for 1080p playback and surfing but I don't game on it.

Speaking of which, this must be new. What a beast of a mini-ITX mobo. USB3.0 to boot for $125. I love how it still has PS/2 though. :p
