Dual Channel vs Triple Channel

Was wondering what would be faster. I know triple would but would it be like a 20% difference faster? Also I have 4gb dual channel at 7-7-7-20 my friend has triple channel 6gb at 9-9-9-24 would my timings make it a closer match? And would it help me to goto 8gb from 4gb if the difference was big?
