Dual channel vs. single channel

I'm running an MSI 7N2 Delta L mobo that will run DDR memory in dual channel mode. My question is this: Is there any advantage to running a 2 X 256 setup vs. a 1 X 512 setup in my memory banks. I am assuming all other things being equal, i.e. FSB speed, latencies, etc. and running a total of 512K of RAM.😕

There is, but not really very much so. But as with most overclockers who try and get every drop of performance out of their rigs, I run dual channel in my axp. Also, P4s do benefit quite a bit as opposed to AXPs, which do not, so it depends what processor you are running. Some do not care about the added performance, no matter how much it is and would rather have a larger stick of ram, thereby not limiting their upgradability by taking up more slots with smaller sticks, and then there are those who buy bigger sticks x 2.

Since that is an Athlon board, than no. There is no tangable benefit in running dual channel. The performance you may gain is not going to be more than about 3-4%. And that is under optimal conditions. And you will only notice when running synthetic benchmarks, and not during real world use.
