Dual Channel vs Single Channel

I just built a 2.4c computer with p4p800 motherboard and 1024 pc3200 geil value ram. Everything is working perfectly now, but I just got cpuid and it says my bus speed is 799 mhz (not 800). It also says my dual channel ddr ram is working on single channel. I put in 2 512mb chips.

1. Is my Bus speed normal at 799?

2. Whats the difference between single channel and double channel activated memory? and which is better

3. If double channel is better, how do I activate it?

Thanks I really appreciate it.

To take advantage of dual channel, you need to install your pair of identical 512mb modules in the correct paired slots. You need to have one of the module in Channel A and one in Channel B. The location should be corresponding, ie both either in the first slot of each channel or both on the 2nd slot of each channel.

In my case with MS-6758 motherboard, slot 1 & 3 are the paired slots that I have placed identical 256mb modules to get dual channel enabled.

Dual channel was reported to be better than single channel. I don't know what is the actual performance gains since I didn't test for it.

Your bus speed seems normal. It's not unusual to see a slightly different number + or - 1
