Dual channel vs single channel on 939 mobos

I'm considering getting a 1 GB stick of ram since they are so inexpensive now and running it in my VNF4 mobo. This is a SKT 939 mobo with dual channel capacity and I'm wondering how much, if any, performance I would lose using only one stick of ram instead of two. Also curious if running 1 stick would allow me to get to a higher OC like the SKT 754 mobos seem to be able to get.

I know that in the Intel world (Not so sure about the AMD world :)) Dual Channel means Populate in pairs cant use a 1 gig stick by itself under Dual channel architecture On Intel mobos Im guessing that Daul Channel DDR2 will follow similar rules for AMD chipsets. now if its DDR your talking about you may be able to populate singly on the 939 mobos

U will hardly notice a performance loss. Though reviews say that dual-channel can give (in certain games) speed improvements of about 5-10%. Make sure to buy memory with good latency and timings, look for CL 2.5. 1024mb modules use to have higher latencies than smaller sticks, which also means, that 1024 are not the best choice for overclocking. The best memory for oc would still be 4x256mb sticks. But as long as u dont want to oc to the limits, a 1024mb with CL2.5 or CL3 will do fine. Memory prices imo will not go down any further, so its a good idea to upgrade memory now.
