Dual Channel RAM question

I have 2x512mb PC3200 running in Dual Channel on my Epox 8rda+ board (nForce 2). Can I add another 512mb stick of a different brand into the 3rd slot while still having the other 2 run in dual channel? Or will the new stick screw that up unless it too is the same brand/type?

i am pretty sure that will screw it up and make it all run in sc, but since it is on a axp system you don't really gain much in dc so you might be better off with 1GB of sc instead of 512 in dc. just make sure to manually type in the ram specs in the bios to the slowest of the 3 sticks settings

Hold on!

Yes, if you add a third stick of 512MB it would still run in DC mode. It would be an "unbalanced" DC config though. To have a "balanced" DC config, you'd wanna add a stick 1 gig, to go along with the other gig (2 x 512MB).

When the NF2 mobo's were very popular, there were plenty of peeps using 2 x 256MB along with a 1 stick of 512MB. Three sticks most definately do work in DC mode on the Nf2 boards.
