I just got a dual channel ddr motherboard. I had a gig of RAM but left out the 512 mb module so I could run it in dual channel with the two 256 mb modules. It worked great but I decided to just stick the 512 mb's in too. So are the two 256 mb modules still running in dual channel? Or do they all just run non dual channel now? I didn't change anything I just stuck it in. I don't know maybe it wasn't even in dual channel mode before, do you usually have to change a setting to even make it dual channel or is it automatic as long as they are in the right slots?

Good question, If you put the 256 sticks in the correct slots then they should be recongized as dual channel automatically, I dont know for sure but I would be willing to bet the 256mb chips are still in dual channel mode, as long as they were originally.

If I'm wrong then just consider it a free bump!

Yup, he's right. As long as the 2x 256 was set up correctly to begin with, it will still run in dual channel mode. The 512 stick will not (for obvious reasons).

Ok cool thanks. I'd buy another 512 stick but 1.5 gigs is kind of crazy, probably buy it eventually but it seems fine for now if that one stick is running single channel. The other two must be working, my system seems plenty fast but I wanted to make sure.
