2x512mb is a common dual-channel setup.

yeah; the main reason most ppl do 2x1gb these days is because it's so cheap. and to have 2 gigs lol.

I was running 2x512 Ram and showed up as Dual. Now I run 4x512 and it shows as dual channel. Dual channel advertises that the brands and speeds need to be the same. On my system sticks one and two are gskill brand, sticks three and four are Mushkin brand. They are all DDR PC3200.

I think some of it comes down to latencies between the chips as well. Different brands advertise different specs as far as latencies go.

4-4-4-5, 2-2-2-3, 2-3-3-6, or whatever. (Those could be bogus numbers, just saying..)
