Dual Channel Question

Bear with me...this is a mouthful.

I have two 512MB sticks in DIMM slots 1&2. If I put a single stick in the 3rd DIMM slot, will that affect the dual-channel configuration of slots 1&2? In other words, once one stick is operating as single channel, will the other 512 MB sticks have to be used in single channel as well, or will single channel and dual channel work together simultaneously (with the 512 MB sticks still benefiting from dual channel while the other stick is just working in single channel)? Another rephrasing: can I set 2 DIMMs to work in dual channel mode while other(s) work in single channel? It's not a "lowest common denominator" thing if you know what I mean...?

If you put in a third dimm, you will be running in single channel mode. You have to have either 2 sticks or 4 sticks for dual channel mode.
