Dual Channel more picky?

I just got a ECS Nforce 2 Ultra board.

I was able to run 2 256mb sticks of regular PC3200 ram overclocking the system to 2.00 ghz with no voltage adjustments and memory up to 218mhz.

When I put in 2 512mb sticks of Dual Channel. the highest memory speed I can get to is 202mhz.

Is this because I am running in Dual Channel or Ithe 512mb sticks are poorer quality ram?

Oh and how do I know I am in Dual channel. Are tehre any programs?

2x256 woudl be the same as 2x512 both would be dual channel if you set it that way

run memtest, one of teh 512s coudl just be bad

what he said and a program called cpu-z, you can find it on google. your m/b should tell you when it posts.

I have an Abit NF7-S and when my comp boots up it says something like "Dual 400mhz ddr* instead of *400mhz ddr* when its in dual channel mode.

Another thing is that you are expecting to oc ram beyond its guaranteed clock. You cant expect pc3200 ram to go beyond 200mhz. You just get lucky if it goes beyond that AT ALL! Some sticks are better at it then others and that is why your 256 sticks of ram are at 218. I have 2 512 sticks of kingston value ram that wont go past 206 and is limiting my oc. If you want to go higher on your oc, ebay off those sticks or post them for sale in the trading forum and get some pc3500 ram to get u a higher oc.
