Hi,

I have an Abit ic7-g motherboard and corsair 512mb memory and recently bought me another corsair 512mb at the same shop to the same price in order to let them run in dual channel mode. Both my motherboard and the memory sticks should support it. I plugged the first stick into the first slot and the second stick into the third slot as it says in the user manual, the slots are color-coded too.
Now as far as i know it should automatically run in dual mode without setting anything in bios. But it doesnt. I have run several programs like cpu-z, aida32, wcpuid and sandra and everything is telling me it runs on single mode.
The memory should be the same, there is only one difference. Aida32 tells me this:

First memory stick:

Maximum CAS latency 3.0 (5.0 ns @ 200 MHz)

Second memory stick:

Maximum CAS latency 2.5 (5.0 ns @ 200 MHz)
2nd Maximum CAS latency 2.0 (6.0 ns @ 166 MHz)

Both sticks where bought as : Corsair 512mb ddr-ram pc-400/cmx512a-3200c2

So here is my question: Are both memory sticks really the same? Is the difference noticed by aida32 really a difference or just a sidenote, i.e. did they send me two different memory sticks? If yes, is this the reason why i cant run them in dual mode? I run them in 2-3-3-6 without problems.

Thanks for your answers and if I missed the topic plz someone tell me, I just thought it was ok for the mainboard forum.

Welcome to the forums!

Yeah, if aida's right, those are two different stick and may well cause probs trying DC.

Also seems like your trying run that Cas 3.0 stick at cas 2.0? I would expect probs here too. I'd put in just the cas 3.0 stick, set mem timings in BIOS to "SPD", take note of the spd timings and then try both sticks in DC with those timings

Thanks for answering!

SPD bios settings are 2.5-3-3-8. I tried to run them with these settings but couldnt get dual mode with it either. Both sticks should run at 2-3-3-6 though, thats what I payed for. Do you think they send me the wrong sticks?

Ok I have tested both sticks seperatly and it seems like the stick I ordered lately only works at CAS latency 3.0 as SPD sets it. Although there is clearly to read CL2 on it I think I will have to send it back. Thanks for your reply Fern.

I have an ic7-g also and some corsair 3200c2 ram

let me tell you some bad news
that c2 at the end of the number means the ram is junk. I sold mine off and bought some geil ram to replace it. it was very frustraighting trying to get the corsair "c2" memory to work
