Dual Channel memory not being a matched pair?

hey guys!
have noticed recently that 1 stick of 1gb ddr memory costs less than 1/2 of a 2x1gb matched pair. i was thinking about buying 2 sticks of decent quality, decent brand 1gb and making a "poor man's" dual channel setup. would this work ok? has anyone tried this? thanks!

Read what you wrote, and think about it ....... it is half the price because it is half the quantity.

nah, i said LESS than than half the price. most things when ya buy in bulk, it costs less for buying MORE. so i want to save money, but will it work ok? i don't see why it wouldn't, but has anyone seen performance hits etc for not buying a factory paired set?

As long as you buy the same brand, same type, and same speed, it will work just fine. If you buy both sticks at the same time, it will be even better, since the two sticks will be coming from the same batch. I bought my two sticks a few weeks apart, and they perform very well together in dual channel, both at stock speeds, and overclocked.
