Dual Channel Memory Mobo

Hi
Heres my question, my mobo has 3 slots for onboard memory, however I am using the "Dual Channel Memory" function so slot-1 and slot-2 has 1ea. 512m 2700DDR dual Channel memory.

I would like to use that other slot now so here is my question, does slot-3 have to be Dual Channel Memory also and if so how come I can't seem to find "Dual Channel Memory" sold in one module purchases?

Thanks,
CA

buy any memory.
Dual channel means you have 2 or 4 sticks of memory so yuor memory bus width from cpu memory controller to the ram is 128 bit. If yuo put in a 3rd stick of ram, it will become single channel and you will noly have 64bit memory bus. That si why Dual channel kits only come in pairs. It's now what memory yuo buy to run dual channel, it's how many you buy.

Buy 1 module of pc2700 value ram(actually pc3200 might be cheaper now, you could use pc3200 too since ti will auotmatically declock to pc2700 speeds.)

Waht kind of motherboard do you have? Can you even have dual channel memory if you're not running a 939 socket chip?

Heres my mobo: Asus A7N8X, btw thanks guys!

hclarkjr the 3rd slot will have to have a 1 gig stick for you to run dual channell.
so let me get this straight, I can buy one stick of memory as long as it amounts to 1gig and my system will still run in Dual Channel mode?

I am using Corsair XMS Dual Channel 2700DDR @512m so total equals 1G. FWIW

yes, i am running 1 gig of memory right now on my mobo ( see signature below for system ) via 2 256 meg sticks and 1 512 meg stick. i have the 2 256's in slot 1 & 2 and the 512 is in the 3rd slot
