Dual Channel DDR

Hey, I am looking at getting an Athlon 2500 Barton with a Gigabyte GA-7N400 motherboard and probably overclocking it and have two questions.

First, will dual channel DDR significantly increase memory/overall performance?

Second, to run memory dual channel do you have to get memory specifically designed to be run dual channel or can you simply buy two sticks of DDR and put them in the appropriate slots and run them dual channel?

Thanks.

yes, two of the SAME DDR sticks in the appropriate slot will work.

Dual Channel mode is a little faster

forget by what percent, i was thinking around 4 or so

yeah, when I built my sys I was only going to get 1 512 chip, instead i got 2x256 when i found out about Dual channel mode.

I ran a bench (PC mar 2002) my mem score w/ dual channel was 5187
w/out dual it was 5022

its not much of a difference, but some

i am running Crucial with CL2.5

its my performance/budget system 😉
