Dual channel DDR speed boost?

I have a shuttle SN41G2, with an Athlon XP2500+ OC'd to 2GHz (I think thats like a 2800 right?) and a Radeon 9500 with the softmod to a 9700 pro (I think it worked, as I got 14400 on 3dmark 2001 SE)

Would I see any gain from getting another stick of Valueram to run it in dual channel? Or would I have better luck getting some faster ram and OC more? Also, I got this program "PC Alert 4" and it says my 12 volt rail is only running 10.4 volts. That is too low, but is it accurately reporting? I mean the computer works fine.

The performance difference between single and dual channel DDR is quite large when it comes to using the onboard video, but for other applications it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. Take a look at these numbers.

What type and how much RAM are you running right now? Is the RAM really holding back your overclock?

As for the power supply question, is that number coming from the BIOS? I wouldn't be suprised if it was accurate since the power supplies in those small form factor systems can be kinda puny. But if everything is running fine, then I wouldn't really worry about it too much.

Thanks, thats what I wanted to know. The RAM I have is 512MB of kingston Valueram PC2700. I can't get a stable windows boot at anything higher than 182FSB which runs the CPU at 2004MHz. I am pretty sure the ram is holding me back. When I got it, I figured why bother overclocking, but i got the itch and had to try anyway. It's not bad ram, as I am overclocking it a bit, but Most people with these Barton 2500s are gettin 2.2GHz plus.

About the power supply, I have no idea where this program gets its numbers.

I should say, that the 12volt rail did not change at all, not even by .0X from before i put in the video card to after.

On a side note, if I were to get new ram, I hear Crucial is good, as is Corsair XMS ram. I could probably sell this valueram to a friend (he maintains the computers for a lending firm) and buy a 512MB stick of PC3200. I dont think I would need more than 512, so I could get 2 256MB chips and use the dual channel mode, but the benchmarks you linked didn't show much of a difference, so it would be nice to have an empty slot if I wanted to go to 1GB ram.

Well, you could try playing around with the multiplier to see if you can get a higher overclock. I'm pretty sure most (maybe all) nForce2 boards allow you to change the multiplier without having to mod the chip. It worked on my Epox 8RDA with an AthlonXP 1700+.....don't know if the same would work for a Barton, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Crucial is pretty good (I have 2 sticks of PC2700 running at 193MHz), and the Corsair XMS is nice too. If you're going to get PC3200 then I don't think you could go wrong with either one since I have a feeling that your motherboard will be the limit on your FSB overclock and not the RAM.

Your reasoning makes sense, if you think you'll add another stick in the semi-near future then go ahead and get one 512MB stick right now, but if you don't think you'll be adding anymore RAM into this system then go ahead and get 2 sticks of 256MB.
