Dual channel DDR question

I was wondering, I know what dual channel does and all and I noticed that a lot of the new ddr that's coming out is dual channel, but I also noticed that its the same pin layout as regular ole' ddr. My question is, does dual channel work in a non-dual channel motherboard? I was thinking about getting more ram but I don't want to invest in anything I wouldn't be able to port over to another system in another year. I didn't know if it would just act like regular ddr if it was in a board that didn't support dual channel. Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as "dual channel memory". All you get when you buy that is two exactly identical, but otherwise perfectly normal DIMMs.

So yes of course they work in single-channel machines.

Ok, well, that clears it up. I just wasn't sure exactly what it meant. I noticed now that is just says dual channel kit. I didn't think that it really made a difference but wanted to be sure before I went and ordered something.
