Dual channel DDR question

On Intel dual-DDR systems, yes, and the same logical organization too. Identical modules would be ideal.

On nForce and nForce2, no they don't have to be, but it would still probably give the best results. nForce uses a crossbar memory controller so both memory controllers can hit all the modules, interestingly enough, and thus you can run dual-channel with three modules, whereas Intel's DC DDR chipsets weld together two DIMMs at a time into a virtual double-wide DIMM, and therefore need modules with identical organization.
