Dual Channel DDR (P4) Benchmarks @ 188mhz...

Since the guy starting the thread is Kyle Bennett, the owner of HardOcp, I would think the benchies are on the up and up.

Wow, impressive! 🙂

I think I'll hold off on a major, expensive upgrade right now and just stick to getting the XP1600+ for a few $ more than I can sell my current CPU for and a Ti4200 and then upgrade like a fiend around the New Year.

That's what I just did. I built two systems around the Epox 8K5A2+ (KT333) and the 1600+ XP AGOIA and they perform excellent. So much so that I decided to sell my 1.6A@2.4ghz / 4G4A+ setup because the real world performance was not really any better...in benchmarks, yes, but not otherwise. So, I decided to wait until I can get 3ghz+, Hyperthreading, and dual channel DDR. 🙂

Yeah, definitely. Looking at Anandtech's CPU Scaling article, most of the faster video cards won't benefit tremendously from a faster CPU. An XP1600+ overclocked to 1.8GHz is plenty for it. Plus, you can't beat the price! 🙂

Cool. It will be interesting when I upgrade next year. Clawhammer Vs. P4 with Dual-channed DDR

That's an easy choice: Sledgehammer with Dual channel DDR.

Assuming AMD stays in business long enough and releases it soon enough.

Sledgehammer (or Clawhammer DP, it too would have two memory-channels. Each CPU has it's own 64bit mem-channel but they can use other CPU's memory as well, making it really a 2x64bit memory-channel) will cost quite alot of money I think.

*cough* NDA *cough*

Ummm, am I wrong or has Kyle broken NDAs before... 😉

It's not an article, more of a teaser screenshot of SiSoftware Sandra showing a GB based mobo with a P4 scoring ~4.6 GB/Sec mem bandwidth.
Impressive 🙂

SCHAWING!!!!!!!!!!!😛😀

Screw this i845PE bullcrap, I'll stick with my i845G until the dual channel boards come out. That way we can have native Serial-ATA support too that doesn't run through the PCI bus.

Uh... yeah! You like me NEED to hold out till DC, it won't make sense to get any other 845XX considering our current setup. 😉

Like Anand stated:
"After taking an in depth look at three 845PE motherboards, it becomes abundantly clear that they have a lot to offer, but perhaps too little too late; dual channel DDR motherboards from Intel, VIA, and SiS will be arriving before the end of the year, supposedly offering significantly better performance than current single channel DDR solutions."
Can't wait!

I am with both of you...I am going to stick with my i845d and i845g epox mobos until GB come out....Hopefully around xmas...I run high fsb now so if 1:1 ratio is all there is I can run some pretty high numbers!!! May make ppl want to stick with some of these lower northwood "a" processors.....Maybe a 1.8a with c1 stepping for xmas as well and get it up to 3ghz plus with a 333mhz dual channel ddr board...

I can run 166fsb at least now and looking at the numbers he stated he had at 333mhz ddr it till would beat the pc1066 and even pc1200 scores...

Same here. I haven't seen any reason to "upgrade" my EPOX 845D board until now. A GB chipset board will be my next major upgrade.

I haven't read that much by Kyle but I was put off by his attitude in the thread. As far as the NDA, he says that he didn't sign one in reference to this particular board that he's using.
