About to order the Scosche one. But, I was wondering if anyone had found a dual port that can actually provide 2.1A to both ports at the same time to android devices and not just Apple products.

I don't know, as I don't have any Android tablets to really try it with, but I bought this one:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ndingMethod=rr

Sits flush in my cigarette lighter and will charge an iPad and an iPhone at the same time, so I imagine it delivers on it's promised 1a per port. Was also able to get BB to price match walmart's $12.88 price.

Maybe you should just go buy it and see if it works and then return it if it doesn't.

I saw that one. It only outputs 1A on each port. I want 2.1A on each port. It also only outputs 0.5A to most (all?) Android devices because they used Apple's way instead of the standard USB way to tell a device how many amps it can draw. That is the problem I am trying to avoid. Everyone ignores the standard and does it the Apple way, which causes Android devices to only draw 0.5A.

i would make my own if i were you. i havent seen many 12v adapters that output 2x2a @ 5vdc, and if you did find one its probably too expensive or too cheaply made to be worthwhile.

just look on mouser for this- http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...=sGAEpiMZZMug9GoBKXZ757qvvCfymN3OSD23VbKMz5A=

it will be very robust for vehicle applications, and it wont drain your battery in case you forget to unplug it. and it probably will never break.

it outputs at 5.05v @ 3A. this means you get a little headroom on the voltage to compensate for voltage drop across the usb cable, and 3A output means it should run nice and cool at the 2A that your tablets will be drawing.

just buy 2 of them and use one for each usb port. and for the case, its probably easiest to find a used 12V usb adapter and rip out the guts. then wire in these regulators. dont forget to add tiny heatsinks! anything will help.

here would be the schematic- all you add is whats outside the dotted lines. each number by the dotted box are the pins.

and, of course, you can always buy those ones you linked to and just cut a usb extension cable open and short the data pins yourself. thats what i have done in the past and it works great.

If I could make it I would. I will probably just get some extension cables and short the pins like you said. Because it doesn't seem like anyone makes them.

i wouldnt mind making it for you, but i would have to charge for the time and shipping on top of the parts so you would be looking at like $50. plus i doubt i could fit it into those mini ones you linked, it would have to be the traditional style that sticks out of the cig socket a ways... but!, it would be the most rugged, smoothest power delivery device you would probably own :D

Targus includes one (a short extension cable that shorts the pins allowing full 2a charging) with a few of their products. I don't think they sell it separately, but they might.

The short extension would be perfect.

Use a cable that is already shorted?

Needs to be a shorted extension cable because the Nabi 2 doesn't charge via a micro usb connection. Instead it has a round DC connection plug and the cable plugs into it and has usb connection on the other end. It can be plugged into a computer for usb charging or the AC adapter for AC charging. I assume, but I don't know for a fact yet that it looks for the shorted data lines like most Android devices do. As the tables were just delivered, I will know soon. But it has to know some how, how many amps it can draw.

Yeah, when I first read it I thought he needed 2a total, not 2a per port.

Power hungry little tablets.

That is a 1.0A and a 2.1A port. I needed two 2.1A ports.

Just to update. The Scosche one charges both tablets and both tablets say AC charging when connected.
