Dual booting Win2k and WinME...need a bit o' help...

So far I have one 6.4gb HD partitioned into 2gb and 4gb and a 10gb by itself. I currently have win2k on the 2gb and I'd like to install ME on the 4gb. WinME install tells me that I need to have my primary partition (the 2gb) formatted as FAT32 (running NTFS and I don't want to reformat). Is there anyway around this?

Windows ME has to be on a primary partition and cannot use NTFS. I guess you can set the 10gb drive as the primarty and install ME on it (assuming its FAT or FAT32).

No WinMe does not have to be installed on the primary partition.

it can be on any fat or fat32 partition, however your
primary partition cannot be ntfs..

you could boot from a floppy 🙁

what is on the 10gig drive?

OK, I ended up fdisking and reformatting my 6.4gb. Both partitions are FAT32 now and I installed Win2k first on C, and WinME on D. Since I installed WinME second, it took out my boot menu so now I can't get into Win2k. Suggestions?

What you should have done was installed WinME with the following command line:

setup /ntldr

since WinME normally does not recognise Win2K's bootmenu and overwrites it. Since you have already lost Win2K's bootmenu, you need to boot up off the Win2K CDROM and select the repair option when it comes up to restore your dual boot capability.
