If I have W98 on C:
and programs all loaded on E:
and want to install W2000 on D:
I understand that I don't has to have to sets of program installations, but that I can have both OS's sharing the same (on E:)
What considerations to I have to make in order for this to work?
When I install all my apps on W2000, to I HAVE to make the exact same installation configurations?
cuz i wouldn't remember'em.

anyone?

You will actually have to perform the install on both OSes so ensure all the necessary registry settings are in place. Just point the installs to the same location (the common E: drive).

The typical problems arise when you uninstall programs that have been installed in both OSes. If you unintsall the app on one side, the other is basically left hanging (no files, but all registry settings are still there and thus, the OS thinkis that its stuff is still there.

You don't have to have the EXACT SAME install for both operation systems. For example, if you install the thesaurus in MS Word for Win98 but forget for Win2K, you'll be able to use it in Win98 but not in Win2K...

Thanks.
I was hoping apps like Word would work that way.
Good to hear that it's not too much of a nitemare.

Cheers.

... and swapfiles on the same partion..
in case anyone reads this thread looking for info, I read a good articleWin2K Dual Booting
at tweak3d.net that explains it well enough but implied that the installation configurations may have to be identical. Apparently this isn't crucial.

There's a really cool tip in it explaining how to devote the same harddrive space to both W98's swapfile and W2K's pagefile with downloadable reg tweaks if you don't want to bother with it yourself. check it out if yer interested.

Cheers
