Alright, for some reason I did this wrong and it's still not working...
[150gb] SUSE
[80gb] xp <-- currently in use and am not willing to wipe

have 80gb hdd currently installed in system, set as master. Have 150gb installed and set as slave, but is not recognized upon boot, so i have no option to dual boot. Gonna upgrade to suse 9.3 asap, but in the meantime, I need to have a software option to dual boot instead of manually going into my chassis and changing the sata connector from the 80 to the 150.

perhaps the sata ports themselves are screwed up since i need to change them for the system to recognize? I dunno, need help tho. thanks

do a google search for suse forums, it will take you to the supported original suse forums. there is a forum in there called "tips and tricks", or guides, something like that. there is a guide in there that says "fixing the grub error for dual booting". i'm wanting to do the same thing you're doing. i think what you need to do is set the suse disk to master, so it first boots to that drive. when you install suse, it should see the xp install (hopefully), and after you install suse it should be an option at the suse boot menu. then you'll have to do the grub fix in the above mentioned thread.

i plan on trying this on a non-critical spare pc. this is all theory, gathered from what i've read. so if you value your xp setup now don't listen to me, because i haven't tried it for myself, this is just the way it *should* work from everything i've seen and read.

lol, thanks. I'll, umm, wait to see what you find [if this has never been tested in other than theory]

thanks for the help though, I heard something about grub before but never looked much into it.
