Dual boot?

When Longhorn is finally released my plan is to keep XP on my current HDD and get another HDD for Longhorn. I want to be able to select which OS I boot up.

I think this is called a dual boot system but I'm not sure.

Is what I'm talking about possible and if it is, how would I go about setting this up?

Thanks,

It is easier than you would think. You just boot to the install CD and choose the second harddrive to install the new OS on. The setup program takes care of the rest automatically. After that, when you boot your system you will be presented with a menu for which OS to load.

I setup my freind's box to do just this. He has MSDN and got the betas.

I will be staying with XP. No longhorn for me.

I'm currently dual-booting a Longhorn pre-alpha build (people keep referring to it as a beta; however that hasnt been released yet) with XP Pro.

Just like Brazen said it's a very easy process, install XP on one partition/drive; than install Longhorn on another; the installer pretty much takes care of the boot loader for you. Dual-booting Windows XP with 2000 is esentially the same process.

You can just install the second XP, and XP should take care of it. You can even go into XP and change the timer on how long it displays the list of OSes before going into the default.

Instructions for this: Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery Settings
