Dual boot xp/Vista Ultimate ?

Im currently running xp home sp3 on my main desktop at the moment. Im consitering adding a 2nd hdd and installing a retail copy of Vista ultimate on it. What I'd like to do is, when I get my new rig built, move the hdd with Vista on it to a new machine with all the files from the xp drive that I want on the new computer. Is this gonna be possible, or will I run into problems doing it this way?
 
I foresee problems. I'd say make the switch when you're sure about it and accompany it with a reformat & clean installation.
 
Migration of software between two machines is much easier than between two HDDs in the same machine.
