Dual boot with XP installed first

Hi people. I just got in Vista and would like to install it as a dual boot. I already have XP installed. I did a dual boot with XP onto a 2K machine a while ago and don't remember having to partition the drive. I think XP did it itself. Can i do this again without using partition magic or anything like that?

whoa man. i just got done installing vista 64 dual booting with xp already there. i had a partition ready to go from beforehand. you may need to use partition magic to get the right size and everything, because i don't think vista's installer can alter the size of a partition but, you can alter partitions sizes in vista after its installed i think as shown here http://www.vistarewired.com/20...ition-in-windows-vista

that said, i dont know why people are bitching about vista. this took like 15 minutes to install, update and get my nvidia and sound blaster drivers installed and its working fine so far. didnt need a serial key either- i will be getting a vista ultimate key when i attend some MS seminar on nov 11, lol.

in my opinion, yes it should be the first thing you do. otherwise if you have two windows installs on one drive then you will have disturbed all of the default folder paths, and programs will end up overwriting each other.
