I have XP on a computer and I need to set it up to dual boot w/ 2000...but when I insert the 2000 CD into the computer and boot from it, it complains that it's an older version and won'y let me install it. I don't even know if it will setup a dual boot or not.

Suggestions?

alright, well, how far do you get in the boot process? Does it let you select a partition?

I'm dual booting 2k and XP also. You need to install 2k first then XP it you want to let windows (XP) install the boot loader. They need to be on separate partitions too. If you want to keep what you have you need to use a third party boot manager like boot magic or ranish partition manager.

How do you go about dual booting XP and 2K if you decide to install 2K after XP is installed already?

You need to install Win2K first to make it dual-boot with WinXP. You should also create 2 different partitions for the two OS's. Since you have WinXP already installed, use FDISK to delete the existing partition (I suppose you have only one now), create 2 new partitions, make first one active, install Win2K on it, and then later if you install WinXP in the second partition, it will be easy. XP will take care of dual-boot automatically, provided Win2K is installed first. Otherwise, you have to use some software like Partition Magic or System Commander etc. to make your job easy. But if you want Win2K Server, you need to get either V-Comm's "System Commander" or Paragon's "Hard Disk Manager". If it is Win2K Pro, anything will do. This is not going to easy, but a little tricky unless you do everything correctly. Otherwise you are going to be spending a lot of hours. Read the documentation first before you attempt to do anything.

You will have to use a boot-manager like boot-magic or ranish partition manager. If you don't have more than one partition you will also need partition magic to create a separate partition for the 2k install.
