dual boot win2000 and Linux 7.2

Ok I'm a newbie with dual boot and a newbie with linux, all this talk about mounting...woah woah woah.
Anyway, I've been trying to read up on what to do, namely the AT FAQ, a lot of the things i read suggest formatting the 2000 partition to FAT32 or 16, not NTFS. I already have my 2000 partitioned to NTFS and that really really can't be changed (less somebody would sacrifice Saturday for me). So can this be done with one partition NTFS, and the Linux Partition (whatever Linux uses)?
