Dual boot question

Hi. I have a strange problem with a dual-boot system.
System specs:
Athlon 750 @ 840
KT133 via chipset (latest drivers on both OS's)
128mb PC100
20gb Maxtor UDMA66 partitioned @ 2 x 10gb
WinME(1st)/Win2k(2nd)

I recently had to reload Win2k due to a startup problem whereby it was checking for errors each time it loaded, even though shutdown was normal.

Now, if I have been using Win2k and want to reboot into WinME, the system hangs just before the ME desktop appears. I have to push the reset button to restart. I then get the choice screen with Safe mode highlighted. If I then choose normal startup rather than safe mode, it goes into WinME with no problems at all.

I have had no problems with WinME at all in the five months I have been using it.

I have always understood that both OS's run independently of each other, so I cannot understand why after using 2k, ME wont boot normally.

I would be grateful for any ideas as this is becoming pretty annoying.

Thanks in advance.
