Dual boot question with ME and 2k Help

I had a dual boot of ME and 2K for a while and things were working fine. I downloaded IE 6 and things in me got messed up. I have to redo the way everythign becuase it seems too laborous to find out what is wrong and then fix it .

Anhow this is what I want to do and I was wondering if you all could give me some instructions to help me.

1. I need to partion the hard drive into the c drive having 30 gigs and the d drive having 10 gigs. I am doing this so i can make a ghost and then burn the ghost onto cd so i don't have to do this again. I don't know how to partion a hard drive so that is a starting point.

2. I have the ME that dell sent me. I think it is bootable. WIll I just have to stick the cd in the drive and everythign will work?

3. This is one of the crucial thing I need to fix. You know how in 2K you can set the password up as Administrator and you don't have to log in each time. I want me to do that.

Then I need to drop 2K on which isn't hard. The rest of the stuff after partioning , settign up the initial OS and fixing the login screen in ME I can do. But these three things I am not sure what I need to do and where to start. Can someone help me please.:|

Maetryx here, 😎

Are you planning on putting ME in the 30GB parition and Win2k in the 10GB partition? Because I think you have to if you make it that way. Because (and I'm speaking from win98 experience and not ME) Win98 is not multi-boot "aware" so it will gladly butcher the win2k installation if they're in the same partition.

From what I understand, the best bet is a separate partition for each OS, and that WinME will probably have to be on the first partition of the first physical hard drive. So then the question is: do you only want 10GB for win2k and 30GB for winME?

Make a DOS boot disk and copy FDISK.EXE and FORMAT.EXE onto it. Boot from floppy then run "FDISK" a menu will come up and you can select what you want to do. There are probably other methods to accomplish this, but this is what I would do.

Go into your BIOS and set the CDROM to 1st boot device. Once your CD boots Windows setup will automatically launch.

Set you password to <nothing> then WinME won't prompt you to login... TweakUI might also be able to accomplish this as well, if you want a user name and password.

Note: There are some issues with running Win2k on a NTFS formatted drive... like WinME can't access that drive, but I'm sure you're already aware of that.

Thanks for helping me. I amnot running them on seperate partions. They run fine together. I just want to ghost the hard drive and make a backup for everythign so if things get hairy again. I can just pop in the cd's
