Dual boot problem: XP/W2K

This is from the F.A.Q.

I am having this exact problem, W2K wont let me boot to XP. XP is on my C: drive and W2K is on F:

Here is where i'm confused, in the faq it says To fix the problem, start the computer in Windows 2000 and copy 2 files from the Windows XP CD-ROM to the root of the system drive. Copy NTLDR and Ntdetect.com from the I386 folder, and replace the ones in the C: root directory.

I cant find "F: root directory" where is my root directory specifically?

does this mean catroot? not exactly sure where to copy these folders.

Root directory means C:\ , as opposed to C:\Windows or C:\Winnt. You need the files ntldr and ntdetect.com on the root of the C:\ .

In retrospect it seams so obvious now........

Thanks for the help.

And thanks for the FAQ Andy, Its saves my arse more than once.

You are welcome. Do me a favour and point people to it when you can see they apply.

Was it you who emailed me about this same question? I thought I replied to you.

No Andy, I didn't email you.

Its obviously a popular issue. Hence, the importance of having it in f.a.q.

Why not? It's nice for testing and that sort of thing. I do, but I don't like WinXP...😛
