Dual boot OS question

hi guys ,
currently my mobo only support ata66 ...is it worth to upgrade my current harddrive to ata100? What will be the speed deffence ata66 and ata100 ...i checked from the review...the differences is not that much but someone told me that there is a big difference between both ata ...any advice ?i appreciate that.

difference = very little...
with non-Intel chipsets in Win2K = not even recognized...

worth it? - no.
wait till drives can push past the 66mb/sec ata66 standard before
upgradign to ata100....

i doubt that will happen for awhile - unless they start bumping up
drive platter densities and/or rotation speeds...they're at 20gb platter
densities right now i believe...not bad.

norte ... i also read from the review says the difference also little ... but how come when my friend did a benchmark they said there is a big difference ....emm... wondering.

You are better going from 5400 to 7200rpm harddrive this will be more noticeable.

depending on which benchmark he used, the difference may be more significant..
but the REAL-WORLD performance will NOT....synthetic benchmarks are capable of
testing theoretical throughput etc., and may show the potential performance of
the drive as opposed to the actual performance...

know which benchmarks show real or theoretical performance.

emm i have another question guys. Currently i am using dual OS in my LM harddrive ..... everytimes when i wanna format my winme i have to reinstall my win2k.. so wat if i install each os into different harddrive ? Lets say i format winme in LM will that effect the win2k in IBM harddrive ?

wait, so you have 2 OS's on 2 diff partitions on the same HD? If you format/reinstall one, that should not affect the other. This is almost the same concept as having each OS on a diff physical HD, but then w/ that set up it's easier to switch between OS's by just moving a jumper or switching the drives around on the IDE cable.

The reason he keeps formatting win2k when he format the winME drive is because formatting c: desroys all win2k's startup files. The way i get around this is to take a copy of the root of c: before i format (i dont actually format, i use a Ghost image, but havent updated it since i installed the second OS) then once i have the first OS up and running, i start a reinstallation of win2k (Well, that was a while ago, im running whistler now, but havent had to try this on it yet) up until the point where it reboots to start setup. At that point, i boot it into win98 instead of lettting the setup procede and then i replace the files i copied earlier, particularly boot.ini. Youll notice that there are now some folders with pretty funky names, they are remnants from the win2k install.

Just one way, there are obviously better ways, such as making the emergency recovery disk and running setup and opting to repair an installtion, something like that i believe, never tried it myself
