Duplicating this post from Motherboards category. I couldn't move it here.

Curious to know how many got a linux+windows dual boot setup going on a GA-P35-DS3L mobo. Was it relatively straightforward? I am planning to build with GA-P35-DS3L rev 2.0, E2180, Gskill 2x1GB DDR2-800. I want to have dual/multi-boot setup (xp+linux or xp+vista+linux). want to get an idea how easy/painful it is with this mobo.

Generally the motherboard has very little bearing on how difficult a dual-boot setup is, the main thing to worry about is whether or not there are drivers for all of the built-in devices that you want to use. If you're good to go in that area then you should be fine.

I guess that was what I was looking for indirectly. Whether the boards built-in devices were automatically recognized by the newer linux distros or if people had to manually load linux drivers for them. Thanks for your thoughts.

chakraps I just put together the same system and will be dual booting Vista with a yet to be determined distro soon. The video card I chose is the Sapphire 3650. Ubuntu 7.1 did not like it although I understand the newer beta does. Mandriva 2008 and Mint both seem to like the card. My very limited experience with Ubuntu is that it is very picky about the video card. Others seem to have no such trouble however. What video card are you using?

Considering that they all use the very same GUI software that seems pretty unlikely.

Redhat Fedora 8 dual boot was easy on the DS3L.
Ubuntu 7.1 did not want to boot the install cd past the kernel Alive message.
Tried the text version as well, same result, Kernel Alive, then reboot.

Asked on forums, irc, no one could solve the problem.

My software requires redhat , but I did want to run ubuntu on this pc as well just to try it out.

I had a few issues with Windows XP / Ubuntu 8.04 dual boot. I needed to disable AHCI to get Windows to work and then had trouble getting Ubuntu to boot correctly after installation--I would get a Grub error. I then tried putting Ubuntu on an IDE drive instead of SATA and found it doesn't have built-in support for the ITE PATA controller on the MB. I finally just switched over to Fedora 8 and didn't have further problems. I came across this forum in browsing for a solution for Ubuntu.

I voted no, but I just installed Ubuntu on a different hard drive than my Windows installation and now all I need to do is pick the correct disk in the boot menu (hit F12 for the DS3L)
