I have an AsusA7V board and 2 ATA100 drives installed on the ATA100
controllers as masters. A Plextor CD writer and a CD rom attached
on the other IDE controllers as masters. One of my HD has WIN98 and
the other has WIN2000. How do I make the choice of which drive to boot
from? Now every time I boot , WIN2000 only boots, In the bios under boot sequence you could only select one ATA100 drive. Now to boot WIN98
I have to unplug the WIN2000 HD. I have the latest bios version A7V1005b. Any Help ?
THANX

Sounds like you installed 2000 first. 2000 comes with a boot loader that you can use to select which os will boot. If you install 98 first 2000 will recognize it and automaticly configure boot loader.

I believe the easiest way to fix this up is now both os's are installed is to boot your 2000 cd and do a repair. When you do this it will recognize the dual os's and give you a menu upon next boot.

Thanx for the reply. when the HDs are attached to the ATA100 channel,
WIN2000 boot CD does not see the drives. It says when I hit enter to
install or repair the WIN2000 "no HDs found ,press F3 to exit"
I had to install the O/S by installing the HD to a IDE channel,
where the CD rom was attached.I initially hit F6 to install to
third party SCSI drivers, even though I had the WIN2000 promise
drivers Copied from the Asus CD in to a floppy. When I hit to install
the driver from the drive A: , it said missing txt.oem.
Any solutions pls ?

Try making an emergency repair disk in Win2K. Its the equivalent of a Win98 boot disk, except that you don't boot with it :D. Make sure that when you make the repair disk you don't change your hardware config afterwards. Now boot from the Win2K CD and choose the repair option. Then when it asks if you have the repair disk, choose yes and go from there. Hope this helps.

You cannot have boot files stored on separate drives/partitions if you want the dual boot menu to work. What you must do is install Win98 and Win2K with both drives connected. Both OSs need to place boot files on the active primary partition on a single drive in order for it to work.

Check out SUOrangeman's Partitioning for full details.

"What you must do is install Win98 and Win2K with both drives connected."

I disagree. I have the exact same mobo, with two hard drives. My primary drive with the Win2K installation is connected through the onboard ATA100 controller, and my second HDD with Win98 is connected to the regular IDE controller (ATA66). Both of the drives are on separate cables, and on completely separate IDE controllers! If you install Win98 first, then install Win2K on the other drive, Win2K does a good job of picking up on the Win98 installation. The trick is juggling the drives between the two IDE controllers. I've done this several times (I have this excellent knack for blowing up OS's) and its worked flawlessly. Good luck!
