Dual Boot ME/2k?

I'm thinking about doing a little spring cleaning with my PC. You know that fresh feeling you get when you format and start over? There's nothing like it :)

I love Win2k, but some apps won't work with it, so I want to be able to swap over if I need to.

Do you guys suggest a Win ME/2k dual boot system, or a 98SE/2k dual boot?

Thanks :)

I would go with ME/Win2k personally. That's what I've got. i don't use ME much except for an occasional game and video stuff. The Windows Movie Maker built in to Me is simple but does the trick for DV. I can get way better video drivers for 98/ME than for Win2k for gaming. ME boots faster than 98. Alot of people hate the ME system Reastore feature but it saved me a big headache when I installed a game patch that screwed up UT. ME isn't bad for a Win9x OS.

If you need DOS at all than keep 98 on there instad of WinME. The Restore Feature on ME can get annoying too, but you can disable that. It's really personal preference. Basically if you want/need DOS for ANYTHING than stick with 98 otherwise you might as well go with the Win2K/WinME option.

DOS is still technially apart of the system with WinME but they hide it and make it unnecceassarily difficult to get into. Plus they killed off allot of the DOS functions. Programs that rely upon DOS at all usually won't run properly in WinME.
If you need to use DOS at all then stick with Win98.

MS is thinking/realizing that DOS is dead. Time to move on.

BTW, it's access to real-mode DOS that has been removed from WinME.

Not exactly like WinNT/2K. Those OSes are emulating DOS with a command interpretor. DOS is treated as a program that runs on the NT-based kernel. BTW, the kernel is in no way based on DOS.

The Win9x line (through WinME) all still run on top of DOS. You just cannot access DOS from boot in WinME.
