I think it can, but its not pretty. Last I heard it caused file system (or just file?) corruption. FAT32 is the way to go for sharing between Windows and linux.
Linux can read NTFS fine, if you write you will definately f' with the filesystem. But there is a tool that fixes the corruption, not the best solution but it works if you need it.
