I'm going to format my HDD's and dual boot Win98 and 2k. I understand that I must install applications under each OS in order to use them with both OS's. My question is do I need to install VIA 4in1 drivers, USB filter driver, MS VIA USB patch, and Direct X in each OS, too?

This will be my first time dual booting so any links to guides/tips/help/etc. are greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone.

yes, you are correct. you need to install each of those things you listed in BOTH OS's.

and remember, you should install win98 FIRST, then win2k, that way win2k will automatically find win98 and add it to the boot menu

IMHO it's a waste of time - just pick an OS and stick with one. :)

Yes, you have to install apps into each OS - as well as all your drivers, settings, etc. The OS's seem to coexist pretty well with each other, if you can ignore all the wasted space. If you are like me, it wont take more thatn a few weeks to notice that you favor one over the other and soon will rarely use the dual-boot function.

Good luck! :)

What if you are installing win2k and red hat linux. Is still best to install win2k second? I have heard from people to NEVER put linux on first in a dual boot.

with linux it's better to use LILO for the dual boot, so yeah, most people install win2k first
