Dual Boot doesn't work after servicing

I had to send my laptop back in. The battery wasn't charging. The computer came installed with Vista. I bought it the day of Vista launch and remember what a pain in the neck it was to get the thing to dual boot. It does not appear that tech support did anything at all to the hard drive, but I suspect they must have did something. When I turn on my computer I get prompted (and it still works the way I made it last year) to choose either windows vista or xp. If I choose xp it starts to load up, then I get a blue screen that flashed for a moment then the computer shuts down. FWIW you can still access the partition that windows xp is on from vista.

Is there a config file that might have gotten erased or corrupted?

Thanks

Just a guess, but my bet is the "tech" who worked on your laptop tried to re-install Vista & it screwed up the MBR.

If you can still get either OS to boot, you should be able to fix this using a free utility called Vista BootPro to restore the start-up information for XP ... there are a couple ways to do this, but I suggest that you go to (and join) the Pro Network forum to do some reading up before playing around much as you may make matters worse otherwise.
