Dual boot 2 Different drives, prevent malware?

Hi first post here.
I was wondering if someone could give me some advice about security.
I was thinking about running a virtual machine for the added security, but heard they can be problematic when trying to run games or anything intensive.

This led me to thinking, is it possible to have 2 seperate HDDs with 2 seperate windows installs. One connected to the net and one not.
Is this even possible during a windows install, to ignore one drive completley?

And even if it is possible and the internet-enabled drive/windows gets malware, would this prevent prevent that malware from reaching the other drive?

if anyone has any thought, thanks in advance

I have a similar detup - Win7 and one drive and 8.1 on another. Each has it's own firewall and anti-malware software installed. Never a problem that way. Keep life simple.

BTW, they are never both powered at the same time.

Ideally i would connect to the net with one drive/install, and not with the other.
And if possible stop the drives/installs from knowing about each other enitrley to prevent malware corssing between the two.

Sorry if this is a basic question, but how does one power a drive while its in use but not others than are in the system? I assume it would still be powered even if it isnt used by windows or the rest of the system?

Very simple - use a mobile rach.

awesome idea! so do you physically remove them when not in use, or is there the option to turn them off on the panel?

If i wanted to go for a standard internal drive, during windows install, i cant remember what the options are for additional drives, and have never set up dual booting. Is it possible to tell windows to disregard a drive all together (if it already has windows installed?)
