dual barton 2500xps??

Is it possible to run dual barton 2500xps?

I run Windows XP. Call of Duty, burn DVDs, use Office, download stuff. If dual bartons are possible, would it be worth it for me?

there are no mobos that support dual XPs

only dual MPs

In general, using XPro, sure you'd see a noticeable difference with SMP. The only problem is that the leader in dual MP boards, Tyan, doesn't seem to be pushing contemporary gamer features in their boards. Plus they cost like 3x more than GREAT single CPU MOBO's.

i'm sure you could make it work on an old amd760mpx board even though it's not officially supported
i think the bartons would be great in a dual cpu rig
since they have to share the same memory bandwidth i would think the 512kb cache would be far more usefull in a dual rig

geez one barton is powerfull enough let alone two of the suckers pumping away

Yea there is a way to convert your barton to an MP processor, but since most dual motherboards don't have a multiplier setting you'll have to manually set it (voiding any warranty). From what I can remember after doing some research is that you'll have to close the L5 bridges in order for the motherboard to see it as an MP processor. Next you'll have to manually adjust the multiplier since now your CPU is underclocked. You'll have to physically cut the bridges on the processor and set it to whatever you feel is reasonable.

i agree, but the i don't think that chipset can take the "full advantage" of the bartons, although 2 is better than one.😀

The 760MPX boards can take advantage of Bartons, heck the last MP's amd made were bartons running at 133Mhz FSB. The problem with XP Bartons is they are 166Mhz FSB, so it would be underclocked. You would havew to cut the bridges yourself to get the right clock, as someone else pointed out.

Well they definately work, i should know my dual 2500xp's sit pretty at 2.26ghz / 1.775v. They will hit 2.35 / 1.8v no probs and could probably go even higher. The easiest way is to lightly scrape the pits and then fill them with a wire trace pen. As for the bridges you have to cut them or you can use wire on the pins. Personally I would go for either mobile 2500xp's (already 266fsb) or 2400xp's based on the thornton core as it save alot of hassle.
