Dual Athlon64 mobo's

I did a quick search of the forums but I couldn't find anything. Still, if this has been asked before please point me in the right direction.

My question is, upon the release of the Athlon64 will there be any dual proc mobo's for the things? My aim it to get a proc and a dual mobo, then add another proc later on. If that's not going to be possible then I'll opt for a single processor rig, after all, anything is better than my aging Athlon 850!

Thanks for your help guys,
Unts.

I was aware that the opterons could support up to 8 way multiprocessing, but I thought the 64's could do dual. Or have I just got my wires crossed?

The Athlon64 WILL be able to be run in Dual mode. The Opteron will have a different board than the 64, but there is supposed to be a dual setup for it also.

But it is still early. So you never know.

Also 2 CPU's does not equal double the performance. You will need a OS that supports dual CPU's and software to take advantage of it. I am running dual Athlon 1600+'s right now.

Thanks Marlin, I thought that was how things were planned! I'm aware of the performance issues with multiprocessors. I have windows XP pro, and should I get the dual processor rig, I'll do a fresh install so that it uses the multiprocessor kernel.

Thanks,
