Dual Athlon XP?

[sorry if you've seen this - I posted to another board here then realised that was for overclocking]

There appears to be no difference between Athlon XP and MP apart from dual processor approval. One systems builder (www.gnd.com) has told me that dual XPs do not work (overheat) and that this has been confirmed by AMD. However, another company (Digital Networks, http://www.dnuk.com/systems/workstar-720-ddr.html) is announcing dual XP machines.

Can anyone explain the contradiction? Can XPs be used for SMP or not? I presume both are using Tyan Tiger mobos.

Thanks, Andrew

Xp can be used for SMP, since they are identical to the Mp, but AMD is not validating them, so it's not guaranteed, and not under warranty.

Thanks. Seems like dual XPs would only be worth it if from a supplier who could be trusted to provide support instead of AMD, and I guess the more reliable suppliers will go with MP anyway when available, rather than cut corners...

It seems that XP is planned not to provide any competition with the MPs. That means that future batches will most likely be SMP locked.
