I'd like to know what the "best parts" are for building a dual Athlon XP (modded to MP) system. I'm not going to build one anytime in the near future but I'd like to get an idea of the specs.

First off, I know that some Athlon XPs don't take as kindly to the SMP (bridge 5) mod as others. Could anyone who has done this mod and had success recommend a particular model?

Secondly, can anyone recommend a low-cost dual Socket A motherboard? I think Tyan's offerings are the cheapest.

BTW, the purpose of this would be to build a low-cost, blazin' powerful distributed computing cruncher machine, so things like onboard sound and AGP slots don't matter. Neither do gobs of memory or PCI slots. It wouldn't need a monitor or speakers because I wouldn't need it for anything other than crunching. Just the cheapest MB around (that has reasonable stability :))

Again, I won't be building this in the near future but I was interested in checking out the specs and price on something like this.. thanks in advance!

If money wasnt an issue I would not bother messing around with XP's and would get MP's from the start.

For dual mobo I would suggest Asus A7M266-D. Modding the XP chips is also easy. There is only one bridge on the L5 that must be closed.
