A couple of weeks ago I inquired about a dual AMD system and the Tyan board and was asked to give an update on it. As our budget was not constrained, we ordered an Alienware dual AMD system (only vendor who could get us a prebuilt system quickly) along with 2 compaq dual P4 2.0ghz workstations. The alienware system arrived yesterday (dual AMD 1800MPs) and I can say that the machine is a screamer and seems to be rock solid. It is definitely significantly faster than the dual p3-xenons I am currently using.

The only real issue with the system are the 7000 rpm fans that they put on the cpus. The system is amazingly loud! So loud that we are thinking about putting the machine into the server rack!

I'll let you know about the stability of the machine as I start to use it more and replace one of my dual P3 systems.

7000 rpm fans don't sound stock at all -- they definitely sound 3rd party. I have a retail XP1800 and the fan is not 7000rpm. However, the case could be different for MPs.
