dual AMD

If you plan to do 2D and 3D graphics work, would a dual AMD system be worth it over a single processor unit. If so, what is a good mobo for a dual AMD system?

Thanks,
Dhanu...

Yes for 2d and 3d work, a fast (or fast dual) processor system with tons of ram is best.
I believe there is only 1 dual Athlon mobo out there right now: the Tyan Thunder K7. Your best bet is a system like this:

2x athlon mp 1.2ghz (palaminos)
4x 256mb pc2100 ddr ram = 1gb
some high end professional vid card. (elsa makes good ones)
big monitor, like 19inch at least, 21" pref.
whatever you would like to add, but thats the base..
oh and if you work with large files, scsi or raid might be a viable option.

Don't forget the special power supply that will ONLY work with Thunder K7.

I'd wait until Tyan Tiger K7 is out. You can attach a regular ATX PSU.

I am running a Dual AMD system with a Tyan K7, 2 x 1.2 AthlonMP, 1GB PC2100 ECC REG Crucial, Elsa GeForce 3, 4 x Seagate Cheetah X15 in RAID 0 + 1 on a Adaptec 3200S, a Pinaccle DV500 Video Editing card. I do alot of 2D & 3D Graphics work. I use Photoshop, Live motion, Video Editing software and it does a great job. there is definately a noticeable differance. Even my everyday use on a dual CPU system has improved, I can multitask even better.

My brother was working on a guys Dual Thunder K7 he was having freezing problems ... but besides the point he told me to try out CS for about 5 or 10 min and see if it locked up .... No problems at all .... but from the little a played it is in no way a gaming board ... it had Dual 1.0 T-Birds. If you plan on doing it only with work your saying ... should work out great. but don't count on it for high-end gaming.
