dual AMD question

ok....i have done a search in both the cpu section and this one.....i cant figure out a couple of things.

can XP's work in a dual setup?

also, what is the difference between MP and XP? also...what would be the top of the line equivalent between the 2?

officially, amd only supports MP's for dual cpu's....BUT, from what i hear, XP's WILL work as such

i'll see if i can find you a good link about the differences...

edit: well, for starters, the multiplier on MP's is factory unlocked, while XP's are factory locked, other than that, i'm pretty sure the only difference is that, like i said, MP's have been tested and verified by AMD to support SMP (symmetric multi-processing)

also, whill the equivalent cpu mhz rating be identical in performance?

yes, the core is the same

and yes, they should give you equal performance

it's just that AMD only official supports MP's for SMP (and also, i believe warranty wise that holds true as well)

Yeah, there are a lot of people running dual XP and dual durons even. Should work just fine.

so what is the highest MP out right now?

if there isn't one that's as high as the XP 1900, do you think i can use dual XP 1900?

Right now MP goes to 1800+, XP goes to 1900+. The XP 1900+ should work just fine in MP.
