Having ordered an xbox360 only for it to crap out within a minute of switching it on because the fans were not working I am tempted to ditch the POS and get two 7800 GT with the refund (got a couple of games too).
I already have an A64cpu, sli mobo and 600W psu. Which of the options do you think will be more futureproof for offering me the best graphical experience for the longest?

I hate to say this but the Xbox 360 is probably more "future proof." PC games have a tendency to push the limits and further technology. The console games push the exisiting technology to it's limits. I'm sure the Xbox 360 will be around for 2 years or longer before "Xbox Infinity." Your 7800GT's will be the latest tech until about Feb 06.

My only concern is the issue of memory for the xbox 360. Can the system achieve the same effects and texture quality with only 512mb to share with the whole system when PC gpus have that just by themselves?
I also read something about DVD drives not being able to stream data fast enough which could limit the system's visuals. There is so much out there its hard to sort the wheat from the chaff.

xbox isnt running an os like XP, theres minimal overheads, and since everyone has the same hardware they can greatly optimize each game to play on the XBOX360, where as if they did that for PC's they'd have one long ass job optimizing for A64, P4, ATI, NV etc as aggressively as they did for the xbox

the old xbox only had 64mb of ram....and look what that could do.

the 360 will last you the longest time for sure.

Thanks for your help. I'll guess I'll see if my next xbox 360 lasts a bit longer.
